Hey Gang,
I learned some new lessons this week (or maybe an old lesson relearned). I always tell my clients (particularly my competitors) that placings and trophies and prizes don’t mean anything. I tell them that the reward lies in the process and the sense of accomplishment. I firmly believe that….but…..as anyone knows, we need to be reminded of these things some times.
My 11 year old gymnastics phenom daughter, Molly, suffered a severely sprained ankle last Thursday and is now unable to compete at States (which also means Regionals and Nationals are out as well). And, I find myself saying ridiculous things like “The whole year was a waste.” and “Why bother to break your ass when something as small as a rolled ankle can ruin everything?”
Hey, I’m human like everyone else. I am so heartbroken for her that I let idiotic statements like that cloud my judgement. In reality, neither this injury, nor the fact that there will be no States, could ever destroy or ruin all the hard work, all the accomplishment, all the pride, all the self-worth that have come from the process of her training.
It is time for me to listen to my own advice. I need to recognize and be thankful for all the amazing things that have come out of this season. And, more importantly, I need to pass those things on to her. I need to understand that the hugs I received this morning from her mean more than anything else on this planet.
I found myself feeling silly as I posted my disappointment on Facebook. I have a friend who lost his oldest son last year in a car accident. I feel like I need to apologize to him for being so trivial.
Like the Rascal Flatts song says “Things that matter…..things that don’t.”
You can apply this to your fitness and weight loss goals as well. When decision time comes for choosing to workout or not you should say to yourself “Things that matter…..things that don’t.” When your health fails and it is too late to reap the benefits of the fitness lifestyle you will wonder why you didn’t choose to workout more frequently. You will wonder why you didn’t put down that drink every now and again. You will wonder why you didn’t chose a salad over dessert more often. You have the ability to change your life dramatically right now as you read this blog post.
Things that matter….things that don’t!!!!!!
Stay Strong, Work Hard
